The Carimaré duo (Bruna Cabral & María Mendoza) is a transcultural artistic project at the intersection of composition, improvisation and performance. The collaboration between the Brazilian percussionist from Pará and the Venezuelan flautist is rooted in their shared experiences across Latin America and Europe, and is characterised by an exploration of identity, migration and artistic practice within the interplay of diverse musical traditions.
Both artists have been trained in the European classical music tradition, which they combine with influences from the musical cultures of their regions of origin. This gives rise to a distinctive artistic language that moves between jazz, popular music and experimental approaches. The line-up of flute and vibraphone is complemented by voice, guitar, electronics and extended percussion, opening up a wide range of sonic and performative possibilities. Improvisation plays a central role here – both as a compositional tool and as a space for exchange and collective creation.
